Hopefully, you have read I Think My House is Haunted! part one, my previous blog post! Let's continue here with proactive solutions for those who may prefer handling things on their own, either entirely or while waiting for a full investigation. Where to start?

There are varied reasons as to why you may be experiencing paranormal activity, and depending on the reasons, there are different solutions. Most investigations are akin to peeling an onion, with multiple factors at play. It's beneficial to know just what you are dealing with. However, there are simple remedies anyone can do to begin alleviating the problem.
It helps to understand the concept put forth by Mr. Einstein. The Universe is comprised of energetic vibrations. These vibrations are emitted by everything! As part of our Universe, this would include spirits, ghosts, entities and residual energy left behind by the living or events from the past. To counteract the vibrations contributing to what we term paranormal activity, the following suggestions are intended to change, and in some cases, raise the vibrational levels at your location. While you will feel a change immediately, please understand, these suggestions are not miracle cures. You will need to repeat most of them diligently as part of your regular psychic housekeeping.
We begin with good old fashioned elbow grease! Give your location a thorough cleaning and decluttering! As the saying goes, cleanliness is next to godliness. Natural, non toxic cleaners are best. You can make your own cost effective products with simple ingredients such as vinegar, lemon juice, baking or washing soda, olive oil, etc. or there are many products available for purchase that are healthy alternatives to the chemical laden ones. While you are at it, open those windows and drapes for fresh air and natural light! Even if it's cold, a few minutes of fresh air can make a difference!
The easiest, tried and true method to psychically cleanse your location of unwanted energy is to smudge with a white sage wand. Using a container to catch the ashes (an abalone shell is traditional), light the wand and proceed counter clock wise throughout the entire location. Don't forget to open closet doors and pay extra attention to doors, windows, mirrors and any reflective surface. You may waft the smoke from the lighted sage wand with a feather if you like. For best results with smudging, timing is essential and best performed on the waning moon. If you are sensitive to the smoke, white sage essential oil in a diffuser would work as well.
Salt is a wonderful, multi purpose and natural item for your cleansing and purifying kit. Mix a small amount in pure water (spring or distilled) and asperge your location inside and out. If you prefer, you can also just sprinkle salt, around the perimeter of each room and around the outside of your building. A little goes a long way! Don't forget a salt scrub for your shower or a handful of sea salt for a bath. This is especially good for days when you feel drained by the negative energy around you.
Crystals and Gemstones
So many to choose from! Warning! Crystals and Gemstones can become habit forming, but not harmful, so indulge if you like. Placed around your location, they offer protective, energizing and healing vibrations according to their own properties. Which to choose? You can't go wrong with quartz crystal, the all purpose stone. Black stones generally absorb negativity. The rainbow in between is limitless. We could write an entire book on crystals, gemstones and their many amazing uses. Carry a few in your pocket or purse. Wear as a piece of jewelry. Place a lovely rose quartz in your bath water. Amethyst promotes peaceful sleep when placed under your pillow or on your nightstand (especially useful for sleep issues related to paranormal activity!). Just remember to periodically cleanse your stones of negative energy by running under cool water, placing in a dish of salt or smudging with your sage wand. You can also charge your stones under the light of the full moon or sunlight. *Selenite is not to be placed in water and sunlight can fade amethyst. Read up on the stones you choose for specific information.
Candles add light through the fire element and a calming energy all their own. Consider the warmth and courage our ancestors must have felt while sitting in front of a hearth or campfire. Use only white, unscented candles. You may love your strongly fragranced, colored candles, but stay away from those for now. The colors and scents can aggravate the situation.
As mentioned above, white sage essential oil can be used in a diffuser as a substitute for those who cannot tolerate the smoke produced with smudging. Other essential oils to try are lavender, which is also great in a bath and peppermint. Frankincense is a high vibrational resin and has a long history of use in raising the spiritual vibrations at a location. Frankincense can be burned as incense in stick or cone form. The resin requires indoor charcoal blocks to be burned on, alone or with other resins (myrrh) wood chips (cedar) and herbs (lavender). Frankincense is also available as an essential oil.
Meditation and Prayer
Meditation is a very helpful practice to add to your daily routine. Even 5 minutes twice a day is beneficial. Sit in a comfortable position, place your hands palm up or down on your thighs, close your eyes and breathe regularly and as deeply as you can. As you relax each part of yourself, you are also quieting the mind. If you prefer to keep your eyes open, focusing on a candle flame or flower is helpful. Don't pressure yourself or think about what you should be doing! Visualize a bright, white light completely surrounding you in an egg shape. Regular meditation can build the aura surrounding your physical body and is a wonderful shield between you and any negativity you encounter. Meditation can lower stress levels and change brain waves. Pretty impressive results for such a simple practice! There are many good meditation books or videos that will assist you. If you are inclined, yoga is an excellent accompaniment to your mediation practice.
Saying a prayer, at the end of your meditation, is a wonderful time to connect with divine energy. Remember to give thanks for the guidance, comfort and blessings you receive!
Take a break from them!! While this may be difficult for some, studies have shown how constant contact with computers, phones, tv's, etc. affect us negatively! If you are having trouble sleeping, turn off the electronics a half hour before bedtime. Take a walk at lunch instead of looking at your phone. In a location with paranormal activity, electronics can feed energy to the very things you are wishing to be rid of.
Music and Art
Music can be beneficial or not, depending on what you are listening to. Try classical music such as Mozart or Native American flute music to connect with good vibrations! Rock, Rap and Country may be fine for a party or driving with the window down, but can add to the chaotic energy at your location, which affects you and the location itself.
Drawing and painting are wonderful mediums to express your feelings! Don't judge what you create, it's for you. Especially beneficial if you have younger children who are being affected by the paranormal activity. It may be easier for them to show you how they feel instead of talking about it.
Odds and Ends
Other things you might try are wind chimes, especially the tuned ones. Salt lamps are said to emit negative ions that are beneficial for our environment. Fresh flowers and potted plants are wonderful additions to your living space as well. An indoor water fountain is a nice addition.
While these methods may appear as overly easy solutions to the activity in your home, do not be fooled by their outward simplicity. Each of these suggestions are excellent ways to change the atmosphere at your location and within yourself. You are a part of the location and yes! you and those at the location can and do affect the vibrations! Actually, these are wonderful solutions to add into your life even if you aren't experiencing paranormal activity! You may have noticed what these suggestions have in common. Getting a little closer to the natural elements, setting boundaries, de-stressing and taking care of yourself physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually. This holistic approach enables us to deal with the negative aspects in our lives.
While some locations may require more in the way of cleansing and warding, and that's why we are here, try these suggestions. They certainly won't hurt and they just may ease the situation.
