"Objective~adjective; having actual existence or reality; based on observable phenomena; representing facts; impartial; of a person or their judgement not influenced by their emotions or personal prejudices."
....and oh so hard to do while analyzing the findings from a paranormal investigation! but absolutely essential to good investigating!!
It is very easy to get caught up in your emotions, whether your own or of the group, especially when there are paranormal occurrences. While we utilize our psychic impressions, which are based on feelings and emotions, we strive to interpret all our findings with an objective mindset. We don't like to share findings or impressions with a client before the investigation, waiting until after we have completed the analyzing phase of an investigation, for this very reason. By putting the entire picture together, we are able to present an objective view to the client.
Not every unexplained object in a picture/video or every knock, thump or voice is paranormal. Houses settle, investigators have tummy rumbles (yes, on a recorder it can sound really odd!) and sounds can carry through an entire house, which may be an investigator walking/talking. We have seen photos with anomalies that we can't explain, yet later are determined to be light reflections/refractions, camera malfunctions, fingers, hair, breath, weather conditions, insects, etc. In other words, we weigh very carefully what we call paranormal, and only after we have looked at the entire investigation. Did we feel something at the time? Is there collaborating evidence? Multiple phenomena? Even when we do present something as paranormal, we do not offer it as 100% irrefutable!
Paranormal investigating is a gray area with very little being black and white. This can lead to a difference of opinion, which is healthy as long as everyone is, well, objective! This is the only way, in our opinion, to be a responsible investigator. While this may not work for a television show, we keep our integrity to ourselves and our clients in this way.
