Often times, people will say to me that our investigations sound like fun..or scary..or both! We do enjoy them or we wouldn't be doing it. While we have fun, we do take our work with C.A.P.E.R.S. very seriously. Speaking of work, there is quite a lot of work that goes into each and every investigation. The elbow grease that keeps things going. Unless you are directly involved, many folks don't realize that it's not all fun and games.
There's the scheduling nightmare, when everyone is working different hours/days. Keeping the technical equipment ready to go and then setting it up before actually beginning the investigation. Sifting through hours of video and audio recordings and analyzing the findings. Downloading everything to the computer. Carefully scanning each still photo for evidence. Ruling out possible explanations for the evidence we do find. Keeping written records of investigation highlights. Maintaining this website. There really is a lot that goes into each and every case.
One of the more enjoyable aspects of paranormal investigation is research. Many times, the client will have background information on the location that can get us pointed in the right direction. During an investigation, we may come up with names, dates, impressions, etc. that require research to validate. Searching cemetery, census, birth, marriage, death, veterans and agricultural records, property deeds, newspapers and local history are all ways of gathering solid evidence and hopefully helping us to understand the paranormal occurrences at the location. Thankfully, internet access to some of these records makes it more convenient and a little less time consuming.
For me, C.A.P.E.R.S. fulfills several interests all rolled into one. An unexplained mystery, paranormal happenings, helping people and a love of history. As several of my Aunts used to say "who would've thunk it?" :)
